Only the best orthodontic materials can be found at Excel Orthodontics
Today in dentistry, orthodontic techniques come in a variety of materials which highly prioritise oral health, tooth safety and successful results…
One of the most common questions we receive at Excel Orthodontics is; ‘why do braces take so long to straighten teeth?‘. Well, to answer our curious patients, it is because when we’re required to move our teeth (even a fraction of movement) we are shifting not only the tooth but we are putting strain on the tooth roots, nerve endings, gums and jawbone; which are all attached to the tooth via the tooth tips. In doing so, the orthodontic treatments that we discuss will be the best for your dental needs should be made of some of the sturdiest, tooth friendly and oral health conscious materials available. That is why at Excel Orthodontics we invest in offering our patients a variety of orthodontic treatments that use some of the best orthodontic materials available today so that your teeth and oral health are not compromised during the course of your treatment.
An orthodontic treatment can stay attached to your teeth for a minimum of six months…
When you make the commitment to improve and enhance your teeth and oral health by straightening your teeth the reality is that you could be wearing an orthodontic treatment for a minimum of six months. This time period is a very long time to be wearing something inorganic inside your mouth so it is essential that the materials used are both biocompatible, non-toxic, and pose minimal hazard to the tooth enamel (if it is a non-removable treatment). The mouth is an environment full of microbial bacteria both good and bad; and in order for it to retain consistent oral health (so as to avoid dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease) then an orthodontic specialist has to consider the ramifications of using certain types of materials on the tooth enamel.
The tooth enamel is the outermost layer of the tooth and is in charge of protecting the tooth from bacteria, friction and decay. It is quite easy for the tooth enamel to wear over time when exposed to erosive substances such as plaque and horrible habits such as using your teeth as tools. When designing orthodontic treatments we choose treatments that have considered the health of your tooth enamel. While many orthodontic treatments such as braces require the use of ‘brackets’ to be placed on your teeth, there are removable options available. Invisalign is one of the orthodontic treatments available at Excel Orthodontics that is completely removable and is made from an oral friendly material.
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment completely made out of plastic…
Invisalign is an incredible popular treatment that many patients are choosing over orthodontic braces because they are removable and in some cases take less time to move the teeth. The Invisalign treatment uses a series of custom-made aligners to slowly but gradually move the teeth. The plastic resin used to make the aligners is a USP Class VI medical grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resin; this type of material underwent several tests to determine its biocompatibility before becoming an available treatment. A biocompatible material has a minimal risk of causing the body to react negatively to its presence inside the mouth. The Invisalign aligners are there for made of a plastic that has a minimal chance of causing harm to the mouth during the duration of your treatment.
Biocompatibility is a high priority as well as durability in all-orthodontic treatments at Excel Orthodontics…
For our patients who are content to invest their orthodontic treatment in traditional treatments such as braces we have different braces that use a variety of materials that are both durable and biocompatible. Lacking the ability of removal must ensure that the materials used in braces are designed to last inside the mouth; fluctuations in temperature (hot and cold food), friction and pressure (chewing, clenching & speaking) and the possibility of bacterial build up (plaque). Our braces treatments can come in common metal alloys, precious metal alloys and ceramics.
