The 5 keys to an ideal smile through Excel Orthodontics
There are a number of physical attributes which contribute to the appearance of a beautiful smile
Excel Orthodontics is conveniently located in four locations: West Lakes, Glenelg, Warradale and Nuriootpa. At these four practice locations we are able to provide the highest quality orthodontic treatment to our patients no matter whether they are young or older. Premium orthodontic treatment involves more than just simply straightening the teeth, it involves careful planning and consideration when it comes to the symmetry and alignment of your smile as a whole. There are 5 keys to a better looking smile with Excel Orthodontics including:
- Size and proportion
- Canted Midline (when the centre line of the front teeth do not align with the middle of the face)
- Axial Tilt (the tilt of the teeth towards the centre of the mouth)
- Jaw position and facial Profile
- Soft Tissue Conditions
Excel Orthodontics is going to take you through how each of these conditions affects the appearance of your smile.
Size and Proportion
When it comes to the size, we don’t only assess the size of each individual tooth, but we also look at your teeth in relation to one and other. The ideal relationship uses the golden proportion which is the width of each tooth in relation to your two front teeth. This is where the front teeth measure 1.6cm and the outer incisors and canines together measure 1.6cm in total.
Canted Midline
The canted midline refers to the position of the seam of the centre-most teeth, in relation to the alignment of your entire facial midline. Ideally, the seam where your middle-most four (upper and lower two) teeth meet will be in there centre of the lip and the centre of the face. Braces or treatment such as Incognito or Invisalign can align this part of your smile for a more symmetrical grin.
Axial Tilt
An axial tilt is the general tilt of the teeth. The best way to explain this is if you were to draw a line through the centre most part of each tooth – would all of their axial tilts be parallel? Orthodontic treatment can improve the axial tilt so that your mouth is aligned correctly.
Jaw position and facial profile
If you have an underbite, overbite or crossbite Dr Watson and Dr Chen will urgently address this issue. Traditional metal braces are generally the best option for this although if it is not a serious jaw misalignment Invisalign and Incognito can still offer a solution.
Soft Tissue Conditions
The appearance of soft tissue can be affected by the position of your teeth. Here at Excel Orthodontics we will take into consideration the “full picture” when it comes to the appearance of your smile. This include the soft tissue which can affect the appearance of your smile. If we believe you would benefit more from gum contouring we will suggest that as a solution.
