Excel Orthodontics has invested in the latest technology so that our patients can straighten their smile comfortably. During the first part of this blog series, we will delve into frequently asked questions surrounding this technology and give you an understanding of its benefits.
What is Invisalign?
If you haven’t come across Invisalign yet, let us introduce you to this innovative alternative to traditional metal braces.
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment for correcting crowded or spaced teeth, crossbites, overbites and underbites through the use of virtually invisible, fully customised, removable aligners. Invisalign can be used to treat almost anyone who wants straighter teeth. Worldwide, more than 3 million people have successfully straightened their smiles with Invisalign.
The aligners are made of specially designed medical grade and BPA-free clear thermoplastic. Because Invisalign aligners are removable and virtually invisible, many people will never realise you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Training is required for all orthodontists and dentists to become qualified and proficient for treating patients with Invisalign.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign aligners work to straighten teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled movement. Only certain teeth are allowed to move at each stage, as determined by the orthodontic treatment plan. The result is in an efficient force-delivery system that gradually moves teeth into the desired position.
The aligners are fully customised for you through the application of 3D computer modeling. Over the treatment course, you will be fitted with a new, slightly different aligner every two weeks.
Invisalign aligners need to be worn at least 22 hours a day over the course of your treatment plan. Comparatively, traditional braces are worn 24 hours a day and cannot be removed.
Benefits of Invisalign
- Virtually invisible
- Effective
- Convenient
- Hygienic
- Comfortable
- Clear treatment plan
A key advantage of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable, which has many hygienic benefits. You are not limited in what you can eat and food won’t get stuck in hard to clean metal braces. On top of this you can easily clean your teeth and maintain optimum oral hygiene through your regular routine of brushing and flossing.
With traditional stainless braces containing traces of nickel it often meant that those suffering from nickel allergies were unable to seek orthodontic treatment. The introduction of Invisalign means these patients will be able to get the treatment they deserve.
Cost of Invisalign treatment
During your consultation at Excel Orthodontics, we will be able to determine the exact cost for you based on your individual treatment needs. The cost of Invisalign treatment is usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces. Factors that influence price include the complexity of your case and expected length of treatment.
